Load Moment is the product of the object's weight multiplied by the object's distance from the fulcrum, which is a fixed point that acts as the pivot point. On a sit-down counterbalanced forklift, the fulcrum or pivot point is the axle of the front wheels.
You can determine your forklift's maximum load moment by multiplying its weight rating by its center load distance, which you can find on the machine's data plate. For example, if your lift truck weighs 4,000 pounds and has a 24-inch load center, its load capacity would be 96,000 inch-pounds.

How Is Forklift Capacity Calculated? To calculate X, multiply a forklift's rated capacity in pounds (A) by the distance in inches from the front wheel center line to the front of forks (B) plus its rated load center measured in inches (C). So, X = A(B+C).
